I’m Jamie, a registered osteopath in Abbotsford and Brunswick. I am passionate about helping people experiencing short- or long-term pain, twinges, catching, cramping or other odd sensations. In my view, our relationships with our bodies are one key to living an enjoyable life. My aim it to assist my clients in moving towards that goal.
How I found osteopathy
I started my bodywork journey as a remedial massage therapist. I really enjoyed this work and the relief I could provide my clients, but I wanted to know more about what was happening under my hands. I saw an osteopath for a low back injury I’d gotten after lifting a very heavy load incorrectly. Her knowledge really impressed me and inspired me to begin my studies that year.
After the 5 years of osteopathy studies I am now a qualified osteopath. I love of helping people move better and live with less pain. I enjoy educating my clients about their bodies and what they can do to get back into their own flow. My clients include desk workers, amateur sportspeople, rock climbers, dancers, dads, mums and many others. I am here to help whether you are injured, have low back pain, neck pain, chronic pain, headache or have a niggling ache. Let me share my experience and expertise to help you find your flow.
My focus
My role as an osteopath is to help you overcome your complaints effectively. I want to see you get back to being your best and give you the tools and knowledge to help you maintain that state. A key part of my treatments is sharing the knowledge I have gained about the human body and helping you apply it. Additionally I use a variety of hands-on techniques including:
- Gentle massage
- deep tissue massage
- strain-counterstain
- trigger point therapy
- Muscle Energy Technique
- joint manipulation
- joint articulation
- biodynamics
- balanced ligamentous tension
- movement advice
Outside the clinic
I enjoy Irish set dancing, contra dancing, double espressos, cycling, learning languages (German and Spanish presently), and repairing and mending things (darning especially). Over the past couple of years I have been getting into meditation and mindfulness, especially insight meditation and the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) course developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn.
